پنجابی ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੱਭਿਆਚਾਰ

There are many type of Cultural activity in the world but punjabi culture is very famous activity, but the most famous punjabi culture is BHANGRA and GIDHA.

BHANGRA:-
bhangra is a very famous punjabi culture it is mainly in the form of music nad damce that orignated in punjab region.Bhangra is commonly associated with sikh.Bhangra began as a folk dance conducted by farmers to celebrate the coming of Spring, or Vaisakhi. Today, bhangra survives in different forms and styles all over the globe – including pop music, film soundtracks, and even collegiate competitions.

Bhangra has developed as a combination of dances from different parts of the Punjab region. The term "Bhangra" now refers to several kinds of dances and arts, including Jhumar, Luddi, Giddha, Julli, Daankara, Dhamal, Saami, Kikli, and Gatka. Jhumar, originally from Sandalbar, Punjab, comprises an important part of Punjab folk heritage. It is a graceful dance, based on a specific Jhumar rhythm. Dancers circle around a drum player while singing a soft chorus.

Dhamal is a true folk-dance, representing the heart of Bhangra. Women of the Sandalbar region traditionally are known for the Saami. The dancers dress in brightly colored kurtas and full flowing skirts called lehengas. Like Daankara, Kikli features pairs of dancers, this time women. The dancers cross their arms, hold each other's hands, and whirl around singing folk songs.

Occasionally four girls join hands to perform this dance. Gatka is a Punjabi Sikh martial art in which people use swords, sticks, or daggers. Historians believe that the sixth Sikh guru started the art of gatka after the martyrdom of fifth guru, Guru Arjan Dev. Wherever there is a large Khalsa Punjabi Sikh population, there will be Gatka participants, often including small children and adults. These participants usually perform Gatka on special Punjabi holidays. In addition to these different dances, a Bhangra performance typically contains many energetic stunts.

The main instrument of bhangra is DHOL,without dhol BHANGRA cannot b imagine.dhol is a drum, widely used in the Indian subcontinent, especially the Punjab region, and especially among the Sikhs of East Punjab. The dhol is a double-sided barrel drum (straight barrels also exist) played mostly as an accompanying instrument to the traditional Punjabi dance of Bhangra.People who play Dhol are called "Dhol Players" or "Dholis.
Dhol was a popular musical instrument in both formal and informal dance performances for decades. Dhol players were once sought-after individuals for occasions of celebration, such as weddings, in India, but since the 1980s, the introduction of electronic devices such as tape recorders has led to a decline in their importance. Though formal Bhangra performances still involve traditional dhol, casual revelries are mostly carried out sans dhol.so DHOL is very important bhangra tool

The interpretation of Bhangra must exist in the space where Asian, UK and hip hop cultures meet. Oversimplification of the genre by outsiders is detrimental to the music’s message, but artists are responsible for how they express their music’s content as well.Punjabi immigrants have encouraged the growth of bhangra in the western hemisphere. However the bhangra industry has not grown in North America nearly as much as it has grown in the United Kingdom.

Bhangra competitions have been held in the Punjab for many decades. However, now universities and other organizations have begun to hold annual Bhangra dance competitions in many of the main cities of the United States, Canada, and England. At these competitions, young Punjabis, other South Asians, and people with no South Asian background compete for money and trophies. In the West, unlike the Punjab, there is less emphasis on traditional Bhangra moves, but rather more focus on a general look of the dance

<strong>so bhangra is very famous activity in punjab and now all over the world

GIDHA:-
GIDHA is very famous women dance, gidha s a popular folk dance of women in Punjab region of India.s a popular folk dance of women in Punjab region of India .Girls or women generally form a circle to start performing giddha. All of them clap their hands and sing small couplets(ਬੋਲੀਆ).

These boliyan, or two-line poems known as couplets, cover a variety of themes such as the excesses committed by husbands and mothers-in-law. The Punjabi salwar kameez or lehnga n bright and rich colours are typically worn by women in this dance. Normally, no musical instruments are accompanied with giddha, except sometimes a dholak and provides the rhythm for the dance. Women clap and/or clang spoons to keep the rhythm. The distinctive hand-claps of the dancers is a prominent feature of this art-form.

Mimicry is also very popular in Giddha. One girl may play the aged bridegroom and another his young bride; or one may play a quarrel-some sister-in-law and another a humble bride. Giddha can be seen at its best when -Teeyan- or the women-s dance festival is celebrated. This festival in Punjab is celebrated in the month of Sawan. The dance usually takes place on the bank of some river or pond under big shady trees. Swings are thrown over the branches and singing, swinging and dancing starts. On this day when the married daughters come to their parent-s house their brothers fix the swings for them. As they swing they share their anxieties with each other through songs. Dressed in their best and decked by ornaments, girls gather during these festivals like the fairies. These dancers look a medley of color and beauty.

kikli is also a part of gidha.nclude a humorous song and dance called the giddha, a whirling dance performed by girls and young women called the kikli, and a form in which dancers snap their fingers and clap their hands while bounding in a circle. The luddi is a Punjabi dance usually...
